British No. 8 bayonet RARE

The No. 8 bayonet looks very much like the No. 5 bayonet with the knife like blade of that era but the muzzle ring diameter is 14.8mm as opposed to 22.6mm on the No. 5. This specimen has muzzle ring closer to 14.5mm. It was developed for the 7.92 SLEM (Self Loading Experimental Model) rifle but was never adopted and is classed as a trials bayonet. This specimen has a P for Poole maker marked in the ricasso and dated 1946. Pommel maker marked SMT in partial diamond and F3 viewer mark. Overall very good condition with original heavy steel scabbard. Rare bayonet for collector of these British and Commonwealth blades.
