It carries the crossed pennants proofing mark along with the Enfield inspector mark of a crown over T9 over E. There is about 60% of the original finish remaining. There are also some minor marks and these are clearly visible in the photographs. The grips are original, as is the dual-tone magazine, stamped CAL . 455, ELEY, on its base. 14. Colt Model of 1911 US Army “Black Army”

Colt Model of 1911 US Army “Black Army”
There are lots of these old 1911’s around but every so often one comes along that whispers “I’m Special”, and this is that pistol. A very good example of a Model of 1911 Colt, manufactured in late 1918 during the last months of production and dubbed by some as the “Black Army” because of the crude black appearance of the blue finish. There is about 60% of the original finish remaining. There are also some minor marks and these are clearly visible in the photographs. The grips are original, as is the dual-tone magazine. Original barrel, bright clean bore. The action is smooth and tight. Colt: S/N 290,000 to 450,000 = May, 1918 to Oct. 24, 1918. Unit marking on backstrap suggests that this pistol was issued and may have made its way to the Rhineland US Army of Occupation but no provenance on that. Interesting and very collectable Colt pistol, reasonably priced.
