  9. R11371 Walther P38 from Canadian CANLOAN officer

Walther P38 from Canadian CANLOAN officer
Interesting pistol with some provenance: It was owned by a Canadian veteran who was attached to British 1st Parachute Division as a CANLOAN officer and parachuted into Arnhem for Operation “Market Garden” in 1944. He avoided capture with the help of Dutch Resistance, one of whom gave him this pistol. Supporting documents consist of registration certificate to Lt. Leo Jack Heaps and copies of his memoirs as published on a regimental history web site. Leo Heaps is also the author of “The Grey Goose of Arnhem” and a copy of that book is included in this listing. The pistol is Walther 1941 manufacture (ac 41). All matching numbers. Magazine is also Walther with Waffenamt “359” stamp. Bore appears to be very good plus. Some wear is obvious to the front of the frame and barrel, not surprising considering where it has been.

  11. Walther PPK Engraved

    Walther PPK Engraved
This pistol was made in 1940 based on the serial number range and was a private purchase piece. Smooth finish and with the Walther script on the Bakelite grip. There is a monogram inlay on the frame beneath the barrel KHW , and one of the animal inlays appears to be the Luftwaffe Eagle, so we researched German Ace Pilots in the post 1940/41 time period and found a fighter ace named Karl-Wilhelm Hofmann who was with JG2 Richtofen. JG2 had unit symbols including an owl and gryphon, which appear to also be inlays on this pistol. That is about as close as we can get to identifying this pistol and its owner. It may be a privately engraved item or a Walther custom shop item but Walther has no records surviving from WWII to help with the identification. This is an operational pistol and prohibited status in Can'tada. Canadians must have 12(6) licencing to own this. We will co-operate with the tedious process to legally export this item to any country with more reasonable firearms laws.
