Original helmet shell design was introduced during WWII but never put into service. In 1956, East Germans (DDR) began using the shell with a WW2 style liner. In 1976, this liner style, which was cheaper and more comfortable than the previous liner, was introduced and used until the reunification in 1989. Interesting Cold War era collectable.
