Very nice original WW2 issue 1944 dated leather shoulder holster for the Colt M1911 .45 pistol. Adopted in 1942, this holster was standard issue for aircraft and tank crews, and was often used by officers who preferred it to the hip holster. In combat areas, all sorts of troops found ways to "acquire" handguns and the regulations as to who was and wasn't permitted to carry them were rarely enforced. Backstrap marked “W.W.” ( Werft Wilhelmshaven), issued at Naval Dockyard Wilhemshaven. The 1906 variant First Issue was issued with the safety in the down position but was altered to the up position. The GESICHERT marking is nicely restamped and the old marking carefully ground off. Matching numbers except for the toggle and the magazine. Correct model 1906 magazine. Bore appears good plus, shiny, sharp rifling, some minor pitting.Original Naval holster is unmarked and heavily used. Later conversion to belt loop carry. Has original cleaning rod. Late in WWI US troops used a French grenade launcher that attached to the Springfield 1903 rifle and projected the grenade using a blank cartridge. This weapon surfaced again early in WW2 being used by US Marines in the Pacific. During the interwar period this khaki canvas carrier was produced by Rock Island Arsenal (RIA) to carry the launcher. Original RIA 3-20 marked (March 1920), one spot of minor fraying on flap, some oil staining on pouch. Lift the dot fastener. Pouch only, no contents.
