  21. AR491 German WWII Glasmine 43

    German WWII Glasmine 43
Original Glasmine 43 used as anti-personnel mine by the Germans during World War II. Made of glass, with minimal metal reduced the chance of detection by mine detectors used by the Allies. The mine consists of a glass bowl, 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter containing an explosive charge and a detonator. The top of the mine has a thin glass disk under a thick, molded glass pressure plate. Mines were supplied with a small quantity of cement putty to seal gaps between the main body and the glass disk cover and make the mine waterproof but naturally this does not come with that component. These had a very short late war production period and are quite rare. Interesting, insidious and very researchable.

  24. HG658 Canadian Airborne Helmet Mark 1

    Canadian Airborne Helmet Mark 1
Started life as a Mark 1 Dispatch Rider helmet. Manufactured by Canadian Motorlamp Company of Windsor, Ontario, aka Canadian Lamp Company and stamped on the helmet shell C.L./C., dated 1944 with a large “S” for small size. Part of the 1943 contract of 10,000 helmets, manufactured in 1944. Liner by British company Backstay Standard, marked B.S. and 44 dated on the leather liner with size 7. Converted to Airborne use as Helmet Steel Airborne Troops Mk 1 with leather 4 point harness and chinstrap. Painted white indicating use by Canadian troops trained to face the threat of Soviet attack in the Canadian Arctic post WWII. Interestingly the helmet is worn reversed from the DR style with the brow pad of the DR helmet now being the neck support for the Airborne helmet, a change of dubious value. Interior of this helmet is dusty from use. All leather is intact and sound, well fastened to shell. Top pad inside helmet is loose. Issued owner has marked name onto leather liner only partly legible.
