Snider lock Portuguese Contract by B.S.A & M

An uncommon Snider lock made by Birmingham Small Arms & Metals on contract to the government of Portugal. The British government was not involved in the sale although Portugal was considered an ally and this sale caused quite a stir in the House of Commons. The lock is marked with the Portuguese crown over GP (Government of Porgugal) and BSA&M Co. over 1875. Only a small quantity of about 10,000 rifles were in the contract, making this a somewhat scarce item. Complete, working. Does not have through stock mounting bolts.
