US Model 1840 NCO Sword C. Roby manufacturing

Original condition sword carried during the US Civil War by Federal non-commissioned officers. 32 inch long blade has been lightly cleaned and shows spots of surface rust within 8 inches of the tip. Ricasso marked US 1863, with FSS inspector’s mark below in three lines. Opposite side is Type 1 circular marking for NCO and Musicians model sword with C. Roby over W. Chelmsford MS, in a circular pattern. Brass mounted leather scabbard is in very good original condition. Tight stitching but chape is missing the two screws that fasten it to the leather. Grip and handguard are original condition, tight with no looseness or wobble but some corrosion as shown in photo. Handguard also marked with inspector FSS for Frederick S. Strong.
