Gladius pattern sawback sidearm

Straight double-edged blade with sawback. Ribbed solid brass hilt with cross guard and oval pommel. Scabbard of black leather-covered wood with brass fittings at throat and chape. No maker name but small mark or logo shown in photo. The “Gladius” pattern is a unique sidearm configuration started by the French in the late 1700s and resurrected by the Russians and Swiss in mid 1800 as a Pioneer’s tool but eventually became more dress or ceremonial in nature. Blade length 19 5/8 inches (498mm), overall length 25 3/8 inches (644mm). Very good condition and unusual to find this item with a scabbard.
