Japanese Kyu-Gunto Army Sword WWII vintage

Appears to be a WWII era. This is a machine made Kyu-Gunto Army sword. Slightly curved blade with full-length single fuller. No marking on ricasso. Cast brass hilt is very decorative with foliage and Imperial Chrysanthemum. Black leather grip with brass wire wrap. Nickel-plated scabbard with single carrying ring is in very good condition. Blade is 34 3/8 inches long in very good condition and covered in a clear grease. Back of handle has a medallion inlaid and this is called a “Mon” or family crest. The Mon does not translate but is a pictogram specific to a family. In this case the Mon appears to refes to the family name “Shigeno”. There was a Captain Shigeno commanding Japanese troops on the island of Java. This may or may not be that person. A very interesting sword but the Mon takes this to an entirely new level of researchability.
